Most of us are learning how to eat healthier, more natural food. We have educated ourselves about quality produce and meats and work to eat foods that are likely to contain fewer chemicals and pesticides.
But how many of us have paid attention to what our dogs eat? It seems to defy logic that we would work so hard to feed ourselves well but ignore the diet of our pets.
Enter the BARF diet. Yes, that’s spelled b-a-r-f, but it’s far from unappetizing to your dog. BARF is an acronym for Biologically Appropriate Raw Food, or more simply, bones and meat, with some vegetables thrown in for good measure.
The BARF diet is a bit like a human’s raw diet in that none of the food should be cooked and all is served as close to its natural state as possible.
